Journey with us and experience the serenity that Amari has to offer; a haven away from the assault of today?s fast-paced lifestyles.
Immerse yourself in the richness of myths and legends and the
simplicity of village life.
For 2008, our first year, we are offering 2 separate weeks:
13 ? 21 August, 2008 - Bring your Stories to Life - Biographical Storytelling
27 Aug ? 3 Sept 2008 - The Dionysian Week with the Gods:
Bring your Stories to Life - Biographical Storytelling
13 ? 21 August with Roi Gal-Or and Stella Kassimati
Each life is a unique story. Each of us is the main character, the hero or the heroine of that story. Like the ancient Greek heroes, we too face challenges, overcome obstacles, fall in love and experience loss, as we
follow an invisible storyline that reveals itself from day to day. How can we shape and craft these stories so that what is personal to us touches something universal in our listeners?
We will be introduced to working creatively with our perception, understanding, and interpretation of personal experiences. We will explore ways in which we can transform these experiences into artistic and meaningful stories ? gifts for others and ourselves.
The week is open to anyone, preferably over the age of 28, with or without previous storytelling experience.
Please note: the focus of the week is not on personal therapy but on discovering and celebrating our stories and the way they can speak to others.
Cost per person, excl. travel - £415
includes: tuition, accommodation, meals

The Dionysian Week with the Gods
27 August ? 3 September
with Stella Kassimati and Heleni Achilleos
Storytelling, wine making and visiting shrines in mountains and vineyards.
The energy and feel of the beautiful village of Amari is influenced by its setting in the foothills of Mt Idi where Zeus, King of the Gods, and his son, Dionysos, grew up. It is a nurturing place for all who visit.
We will explore the myths of Dionysos, God of wine. We will meet him in the vineyards and in the colour and taste of the wine we make. We will drink the wine made by the pioneering group two years ago and prepare
wine to be enjoyed by the group to come in two years time. We will hear stories of the gods connected to this land ? Pan, Zeus, Hermes and the Moon goddesses Artemis, Selene, Hecate. We will visit ancient shrines
and share the stories that arise in us from being in Amari, the immortal valley of Zeus.
Cost per person, excl. travel - £395
includes: tuition, accommodation, meals

Crossing Boundaries: Storytelling and Narrative in Healthcare
27th September 2008, Grasmere,
The Lake District

Set in the heart of the Lake District, Grasmere offers an inspirational and relaxing setting for this second conference which brings together storytellers, researchers and practitioners from a wide range of health and social care settings.
Overview and Aims
This year’s conference will explore how stories cross generational, geographical, cultural and linguistic boundaries within health and social care settings and how stories shift and are changed by crossing such boundaries. It also aims to provide a forum for developing a greater understanding of each others approaches, skills and praxis and identifying areas for future collaborative working in practice and research.
